Trump Directs DHS to Avoid Protests in Democrat-Led Cities

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Homeland Security to refrain from intervening in protests and unrest in cities governed by Democrats, as demonstrations against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue across the country.

The protests followed a nationwide action known as the “National Shutdown,” launched on Friday. Organizers called on people to stop working, attending school, and spending money as a form of mass pressure to force an end to immigration raids. In Los Angeles, demonstrations escalated into confrontations with police and federal agents, with protesters briefly taking control of an ICE facility. A similar situation unfolded in Eugene, Oregon, where demonstrators forced their way into a federal building and refused to leave.

In a statement posted on his social media platform on Saturday, Trump said he had “instructed Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, that under no circumstances are we going to participate in various poorly run Democrat Cities with regard to their Protests and/or Riots unless, and until, they ask us for help.”

At the same time, he stressed that federal property would be aggressively protected. “We will, however, guard, and very powerfully so, any and all Federal Buildings that are being attacked… I have instructed ICE and/or Border Patrol to be very forceful in this protection of Federal Government Property,” he said.

Trump argued that safeguarding both local and federal assets is primarily the responsibility of state and municipal authorities, with federal forces serving only in a secondary role if requested.

“If local governments are unable to handle the Insurrectionists, Agitators, and Anarchists, we will immediately go to the location where such help is requested and take care of the situation very easily and methodically,” he said, warning that federal agencies — and “if necessary, our Military” — would act decisively if federal facilities come under threat.
