Trump Says Federal Forces Will Stay out of City Protests
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump explained that he had instructed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to make sure federal personnel would not be sent to handle municipal protests or disturbances “unless, and until, they ask us for help.”
He emphasized that the federal government would still defend its own facilities, saying, “We will, however, guard, and very powerfully so, any and all Federal Buildings that are being attacked by these highly paid Lunatics, Agitators, and Insurrectionists,” underscoring a strong stance on protecting federal property.
According to Trump, federal bodies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and border patrol units would be “extremely powerful and tough” in safeguarding federal offices, courthouses, and other government sites. He also hinted that military forces could take part in these protective measures if necessary.
The president pointed to an anti-ICE demonstration that took place Friday in Eugene, Oregon, claiming that protesters forced their way into a federal facility and caused damage. He criticized local law enforcement for not stepping in and warned that such episodes would no longer be accepted.
Trump reiterated that maintaining order and securing local assets falls primarily on state and municipal governments, adding that federal agencies would act only as a “backup” if invited to do so.
He concluded by noting that federal involvement would begin “immediately” should local administrations request assistance.
